Minister Li Rongrong answered my questionLi Rongrong, head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, answered my question about career planning on Monday. His words gave me great inspirations that helped me start my first job with the positive attitude. Following is the full text of Li’s words.
Graduation ceremony of SIESThe graduation ceremony of School of English and International Studies was held on June 28.
Prof. Zhang Xiaoying is conferring the bachelor’s degree on me. Jiang calls for Neo-LOHASInject new idea into LOHASI came across the concept of LOHAS earlier this year in the Reader’s Digest Magazine. LOHAS, the acronym of Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability, has been highly recognized and well accepted by environmentalists, especially in the East Asia such as Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. However, the prevalence of LOHAS is, to a large extent, the result of a successful business model, or more exactly, the result of the American consumerism, which means that the ordinary people can not afford the high cost of LOHAS. So I would like to inject some new ideas into this concept, which is just a concept without any involvement with the market segment and that must be suitable for everyone. First, health is the most important component of LOHAS. The definition of health offered by the World Health Organization is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.” To achieve the physical fitness, we have to do regular exercises, have adequate also nutritional food and get good rest everyday. As for mental health, we need to know how to manage the stress with positive thinking and try to be competent to handle any kind of pressure and maintain satisfying interpersonal relationships. Secondly, we have to broaden our health knowledge by learning the basic sciences of biology, chemistry and physics as well as other fields such as psychology. Chinese people, in particular, should pay attention to the traditional Chinese medicine passing down from one generation to another, which still prove helpful for the hygiene nowadays. Thirdly, we need to treat ourselves as well as the environment in a sustainable way. For example, take care of ourselves and protect our eyesight. Don’t overwork ourselves. Don’t consume excessively. Improve our environmental awareness, etc. The new lifestyle would ensure you a brighter future and better tomorrow. Let’s start to be a LAHASian from today! Times’s introduction to President Hu attending G20 summitFollowing is a brief introduction to President Hu Jintao given by London-based Times: ChinaHu Jintao Age 66 Style Cautious, taciturn. Said to like ballroom dancing Best known for His return to egalitarianism after years of get-rich-quick leadership Best quote Life "requires resolve, attention to concrete matters and courage in making decisions" Friends around G20 table Relations with France are in the deep freeze over the Dalai Lama. Friendly with several others, notably Brazil, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Australia Agenda To present China as a champion of the Third World; to ensure domestic recovery as contribution to world recovery Size of stimulus 13.3 per cent 2008 GDP Gordon-friendly factor Pleased with Britain's policy on Tibet and the Dalai Lama Key Words:taciturn,沉默寡言的;egali-tarianism,平均主义. 2009: Unusual “Two Sessions”An article in China News Week said that the 2009 annual sessions of the NPC and CPPCC would be unusual as the representatives and political advisors have to hold in-depth discussions about the current economic crunch. The financial budget comes as the first concern. On the one hand, the government is confronted with the severest financial condition in the recent decade, which may cause a sharp drop in the revenue. Thus, the government should budget strictly, curtailing the government expenses and spending the limited funds on programs pertaining to people’s livelihood. On the other hand, the central government has announced an unprecedented stimulus package with an extra large scale. The whole society hope that these government funds can be used properly. However, the responses from the government couldn’t dispel the doubt from the public. Another worrisome problem is that the stimulus package still favors the infrastructures; by contrast, however, the investments in people’s welfare programs remain conservative. A package like this is likely to increase the unbalanced proportion of investment to consumption. And the most of the expansive financial funds may flow to the stated-owned monopoly enterprises. The third question is how to fend off the potential unrest and maintain the social order. It is predictable that the social conflicts may intensify this year. However, it needs a feasible political solution to prevent such social disorder. (Jiang 2009-03-11) |
